Overview

The Nissan Qashqai is a compact crossover, sized at 4,425 mm long, that helped establish the C-segment SUV format in Europe when it first launched in 2007. The current generation is offered exclusively with hybridised petrol power, with no diesel or plug-in option.

The mainstream engine is a 1.3-litre turbocharged mild hybrid, offered in 140PS and 158PS states of tune, with a belt-driven starter-generator that assists acceleration and recovers braking energy. Above it sits Nissan’s e-Power system, a series hybrid in which the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine works only as a generator, never connecting to the wheels. Electricity flows to a battery and then to a 205PS, 330 Nm electric motor that drives the front wheels, giving EV-like throttle response without needing to be plugged in.

Inside, the Qashqai runs Nissan’s NissanConnect infotainment with Google built-in from mid-range trims up, alongside driver-assistance features including a 360-degree Around View Monitor and rear cross-traffic alert. Trim levels span Acenta Premium through N-Connecta, N-Design, Tekna, and the range-topping Tekna+.

Pricing for the mild hybrid starts from around €28,990, with the e-Power hybrid opening near €39,990. The Qashqai is built at Nissan’s Sunderland plant in the UK for European markets.

How powerful is the Nissan Qashqai?

What type of car is the Nissan Qashqai?
The Nissan Qashqai is a SUV.
What is Nissan's e-Power system?
e-Power is a series hybrid. The petrol engine never drives the wheels directly; it only spins a generator that charges a small battery, which powers an electric motor that does all the driving. It behaves like an EV to drive but never needs plugging in.
Does the Qashqai come as a plug-in hybrid or full EV?
No. Nissan offers the Qashqai only with a conventional mild hybrid petrol engine or the non-plug-in e-Power hybrid. A separate battery-electric Nissan crossover, the Ariya, covers that role.

The Qashqai is a five-seat, front-wheel-drive-only crossover. Both the mild hybrid and e-Power versions send power exclusively to the front wheels.
