Overview

The second-generation MG HS (codename AS33) is a compact SUV built on SAIC’s updated platform, measuring 4,655 mm long on a 2,765 mm wheelbase, up from 4,574 mm and 2,720 mm on the first generation, which it replaced in UK showrooms through 2024 and 2025, and by mid-2026 had become one of the fastest-growing nameplates in the segment, climbing from ninth to fourth in the UK sales chart with registrations up more than 200% year on year.

Three powertrains cover the range. The entry petrol is a 1.5-litre turbo four making 168 hp, offered with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Hybrid+ pairs the same engine with an electric motor and a small 1.83 kWh battery for 224 hp combined and no plug required. The PHEV tops the range with a 141 hp 1.5-litre turbo and a 181 hp motor drawing on a 24.7 kWh battery, for 295 hp combined, a 6.1-second 0-62 mph time, and an official 75 miles of electric-only range from a Type 2 charge port.

Inside, the HS carries MG’s current touchscreen-led cabin, with a digital instrument cluster and driver-assistance suite standard across the range. Boot space holds at 507 litres regardless of powertrain, expanding to 1,484 litres with the rear seats folded.

UK prices start at £24,995 for the entry petrol SE, £29,495 for Hybrid+ SE, and £32,495 for the PHEV SE, rising to £34,995 for the range-topping PHEV Trophy.
