VinFast was established in 2017 in Hai Phong, Vietnam, as the automotive division of Vingroup, the country’s largest private conglomerate, founded by billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong. The company is headquartered in Hanoi and began with conventional petrol models before shifting entirely to battery-electric vehicles. VinFast listed on the Nasdaq in August 2023 via a merger with Black Spade Acquisition Co.
The current lineup is EV-only, running from the subcompact VF 5 and compact VF 6 through the mid-size VF 7 and VF 8 to the three-row VF 9 flagship. Vehicles are built at VinFast’s Hai Phong plant in Vietnam, with a second factory in Thoothukudi, India supplying models like the VF 6 for South Asian and export markets. VinFast is expanding sales beyond Vietnam into the United States, Europe, and India.
