Car News from Croatia

Croatia's place in the industry rests on Rimac, which fully controls the joint venture that owns Bugatti as of September 2026 - ownership running out of the region rather than into it.

Croatia’s standing in the car industry rests on one company. Rimac, founded at Sveta Nedelja near Zagreb in 2009, builds the Nevera hypercar, supplies batteries and electric drivetrains to other manufacturers through its Rimac Technology arm, and since 2021 has led Bugatti Rimac, the joint venture that took over Bugatti. Rimac Group took full control of that joint venture in September 2026, buying out Porsche’s remaining stake. A Croatian firm controlling a French marque is the reverse of how ownership usually runs in this part of Europe. The same group also develops Verne, a driverless passenger vehicle intended for city fleets rather than private sale.
