Overview

The Volkswagen Taigun is a compact SUV built at Volkswagen’s Pune, India plant on the MQB A0-IN platform, a version of the Volkswagen Group’s modular architecture shortened and adapted for the segment. It shares its underpinnings with the Skoda Kushaq. The Taigun measures 4,221 mm long on a 2,651 mm wheelbase. The Taigun name is used only in the Indian market; the same car is exported and sold as the T-Cross in Mexico, South Africa, and Indonesia. That export badge is unrelated to Europe’s own, smaller T-Cross, which is built in Spain on the standard MQB A0 platform.

Two turbocharged petrol engines are offered. The entry 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI produces 115 hp and 178 Nm, available with a 6-speed manual or a torque-converter automatic. The 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI produces 148 hp and 250 Nm, paired exclusively with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and reserved for the higher GT Line and GT Plus trims.

The lineup spans seven trims - Comfortline, Highline, Highline Plus, Topline, GT Line, GT Plus Chrome, and GT Plus Sport - with features scaling from a single-pane sunroof and a touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on mid trims to a panoramic sunroof and a wireless charging pad at the top of the range.

Pricing runs from roughly Rs 11 lakh for the base 1.0 TSI Comfortline to Rs 19.3 lakh for the range-topping 1.5 TSI GT Plus Sport DSG.
