The Firefly is a 4,003 mm hatchback on a 2,615 mm wheelbase, the first car from Firefly, the third brand of NIO Inc beside NIO and ONVO. It was launched on 19 April 2025, deliveries in China began on 29 April, and it seats five. Kris Tomasson led the design, built around three circular headlights and a black roof. Unladen weight is 1,492 kg, of which the battery is 314 kg.
Firefly powertrain and charging
A single rear motor drives the car. It produced 105 kW (141 hp) and 200 Nm at launch; the refreshed car launched on 7 April 2026 with 120 kW (161 hp) and a 7.9-second 0 to 100 km/h time, and NIO delivered the extra power to existing owners over the air from 14 May 2026. Top speed is 150 km/h. The 42.1 kWh LFP battery comes from Sunwoda and is rated at 420 km on the CLTC cycle. On 23 October 2026 Firefly added a 60 kWh option rated at 560 km CLTC, about 33% more, with the same battery size and curb weight; 0 to 100 km/h stays at 7.9 seconds on both packs. The charging figures below are for the 42.1 kWh pack.
DC charging peaks at 100 kW, which takes the battery from 10 to 80% in 29 minutes. The pack can be swapped at NIO stations in China. The European car launched with the 105 kW motor and is rated at 330 km on the WLTP cycle; the 120 kW update has been reported only for China. The 420 and 330 km figures describe the same 42.1 kWh pack on different test cycles.
Inside the Firefly
A 13.2-inch central touchscreen and a 6-inch driver display carry the controls. The European specification lists 27 storage spaces, a 404-litre boot and a 92-litre front trunk under the bonnet.
Firefly price and trims
China prices include the battery. The Zizai costs 119,800 yuan (~$17,800) and the Faguang, with a more upmarket interior, 125,800 yuan (~$18,700); leasing the battery separately lowers them to 79,800 and 85,800 yuan, with a monthly fee of 399 yuan (~$59). The Habitat Edition went on sale on 20 July 2026 as the first car in a design-led Halo series, in a single version at 133,300 yuan (~$19,800), or 93,300 yuan (~$13,900) with the battery leased. It adds moss-green paint and fabric, an embossed door-panel pattern and a glowing green logo, on the same motor and battery. Firefly says it will release a new Halo model each year.
The 60 kWh pack, announced on 23 October 2026, costs 136,800 yuan (~$20,300) on the Zizai, 142,800 yuan (~$21,200) on the Faguang and 150,300 yuan (~$22,300) on the Habitat, 17,000 yuan (~$2,500) more than the 42.1 kWh versions. On the battery lease the car price is unchanged at 79,800, 85,800 and 93,300 yuan, and the monthly fee is 599 yuan (~$89) instead of 399 yuan (~$59). Existing owners can upgrade: 17,000 yuan (~$2,500) for those who bought the battery outright, 3,000 yuan (~$400) for those on the lease, for first owners who ordered a 42 kWh car by 22 October 2026 and upgrade by 31 December 2027. The 560 km figure is a Chinese CLTC rating and does not apply to the European car.
In Europe the car is sold with the battery included in the price, from EUR 29,990 in the Netherlands, Belgium and Austria as of December 2025. NIO’s Chinese-built cars carry an additional 31% EU import duty, which accounts for part of the gap to the Chinese prices.
