The Sealion 08 is BYD’s flagship SUV, built to lead the Ocean sub-brand’s crossover lineup above the smaller Sealion 7. It measures 5,115 mm long on a 3,030 mm wheelbase, with a five- or six-seat cabin, a 21.4-inch ceiling-mounted screen for rear passengers, a 7.3-litre refrigerator, and a 943-litre boot plus a 201-litre powered front compartment in five-seat form. Six-seat versions get second-row seats that slide sideways. Wheels run 20 or 21 inches depending on version.
Two powertrain families are offered, and both use the second-generation Blade Battery. The plug-in hybrid pairs a 1.5-litre engine rated at 154 hp with a 200 kW (268 hp) electric motor in rear-drive form, good for 400 km of CLTC electric range; the all-wheel-drive hybrid adds a second motor for 400 kW (536 hp) and 350 km, and BYD quotes up to 1,650 km combined with a full tank. Both hybrids use a 55.843 kWh battery.
The battery-electric versions share a 115.072 kWh pack. The rear-drive car uses a single 370 kW (496 hp) motor for 900 km CLTC; the all-wheel-drive version adds a 215 kW front motor for 585 kW (784 hp) and 800 km. Flash charging takes the pack from 10 to 70 percent in five minutes, or 10 to 97 percent in nine minutes.
Standard equipment across the range includes DiSus-A body control with dual-chamber air suspension, active rear-wheel steering, and BYD’s God’s Eye driver-assistance suite with lidar.
The Sealion 08 went on sale in China on 2 September 2026 in eight versions priced between 229,900 and 279,900 yuan, following the Seal 08 sedan and the Dynasty-family Datang SUV as the automaker’s latest run of flagship-tier launches. No export markets have been announced.
