The BYD Seagull is a subcompact electric hatchback that launched in China in April 2023 and quickly became one of the country’s best-selling EVs, taking 10,000 orders within 24 hours of its reveal. It measures 3,780 mm long on a 2,500 mm wheelbase, placing it firmly in the A-segment city-car class, and BYD has kept that footprint through a February 2025 facelift and a further update in May 2026.
Power comes from a single front motor producing 55 kW (74 hp) and 135 Nm of torque, reaching 100 km/h in about 13 seconds and a 130 km/h top speed. Two BYD Blade LFP battery packs are offered: a 30.08 kWh unit for 305 km of CLTC range, and a 38.88 kWh unit for 405 km.
The cabin is built around a 12.8-inch floating, rotating touchscreen running BYD’s DiLink 150 software. On the range-topping Freedom and Flying trims, buyers can add BYD’s “God’s Eye B” (DiPilot 300) assistance package, which puts a LiDAR unit on the roof alongside an Nvidia Drive Orin chip for highway and city driver assistance and automated parking.
Pricing in China runs from ¥69,900 for the base 305 km Vitality trim to ¥97,900 for the 405 km Flying trim with God’s Eye B, or roughly $10,300 to $14,400. Outside China, the same car sells under different names and specifications: BYD Dolphin Mini in most of Latin America, BYD Dolphin Surf in Europe and South Africa, and BYD Atto 1 in parts of Southeast Asia and Oceania.
