The second-generation Cadillac XT5 is a five-seat midsize SUV developed for China and sold only there. It launched in 2024 with a 237 PS 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, and in 2026 Cadillac added a plug-in hybrid with a combined 517 hp, 215 km of electric range on the CLTC cycle and a list price roughly a quarter below the petrol car's.
Cadillac's three-row gasoline crossover, sold alongside the smaller XT5 until production wound down after the 2025 model year as the brand shifted toward EVs. Cadillac confirmed in July 2026 that a gas-powered successor will return, though specs for the new car have not been announced.

Cadillac has launched a plug-in hybrid version of the China-market XT5. A 1.5-litre turbo engine and two electric motors make a combined 517 hp and 740 Nm, enough for 0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, with a 35.5 kWh battery good for 215 km of electric range and 1,360 km in total on the CLTC cycle. It lists at ¥279,900 to ¥299,900, well under the petrol XT5's ¥379,900 guided price.
General Motors and SAIC have run their joint venture out to 2047 and given it a new job: at least 30 new-energy models by 2030, built in China and shipped to the Middle East, Africa, South America, Mexico and Asia-Pacific. The Buick Electra E7 goes first, in October. Chevrolet, meanwhile, stops selling in China.
Cadillac has confirmed it will bring back gasoline-powered versions of the XT5 and XT6 crossovers, reversing an earlier decision to discontinue both nameplates as part of an EV-only push. The two will sell alongside Cadillac's electric Optiq, Lyriq, Vistiq and Escalade IQ; a next-generation gas CT5 sedan is also in development. Pricing and timing for the revived XT5 and XT6 have not been disclosed.
Cadillac is GM’s prestige brand, historically positioned against Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Its biggest-volume product is the Escalade full-size SUV, which has been built since 1999 and dominates the American full-size luxury SUV segment.
The electric Escalade IQ, launched in 2024 on GM’s Ultium platform, is the brand’s most expensive and most technologically ambitious vehicle. The IQL variant, announced in 2026, extends the IQ’s wheelbase to match the long-body Escalade ESV that Cadillac has offered in combustion form since 2002.
